Type 1

The internet and blogging can be used as a resource for journalist and historians by someone starting a topic, and then other people writing comments and posting new and more information. Also there is usually more info on the internet and it is also more updated. Blogs and internet resources are also more convenient because you don't have to go look things up in a book.

Talk about people...

With over 500,000 people you would think that there would be a lot of fighting going on because of different races and so on. But this did not happen, there were many different kinds of races at Woodstock. It was a time for peace and if you were not going to be peaceful you would not be allowed to enter. The different races interacted with each other and had a great time.

What was Going on then?

In 1969 there were a few major events going on. The U.S. was still fighting in Vietnam but the very first troop with drawl takes place. A category 5 hurricane Camille, the most powerful tropical cyclonic system, hits the Mississippi coast and kills 248 people. This caused 1.5 billion dollars in damage. Apollo 11 took off for the first landing on the moon.

Woodstock?

Woodstock was a three day event that was held in Bethel NY from August 15 -18 in 1969. It took place on Max Yasgur's dairy farm. Four young men were planning on only 50,ooo people attending which they thought this would be enough for them to raise enough money for a music studio and a retreat for musicians. The ticket prices were 7 $ for one day, 13 $ for two days and 18$ for all three days. There were going to be 32 artist performing such as Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead and The Who. There estimate of 50 thousand people was a little to little, before they knew it there were 200,000 people coming. So they had to get more food and restrooms. Two days before the concert, 50 thousand people showed up and were camping out. There were not enough tickets made so this meant one of the best concerts of all time was going to free to watch. People heard this and dropped what they were doing and headed toward new york. People were coming as far as California to watch. They estimated 1 million people tried to go to woodstock but the cops had to turn thousands of cars around and kick people out. In the end they lost a lot of money, they were over 1 million dollars in debt and had 70 law suits to deal with.

Rain is a good thing?

On day two of the woodstock a huge rain storm hit, due to the fact they were on a pig farm meant there was going to be a lot of mud. People would hide under plastic and if they were lucky they would buy a rain coat for five dollars. There were high towers were people would stand for special equipment, and they had to come down because of the threat of lighting striking. The rain though was the highlight for most of the people there. They were dancing in the rain, and wrestling and having a good time. The Grounds crew though didn't enjoy it though because they had to put all the electrical stuff off of the stage. The rain lasted several hours and when it was done the bands kept coming out and everyone was still having a good time.

Got Drugs? We do

There were a lot of drug users at Woodstock, which most people would refer to theses people as hippies. Some of the drugs included pot, acid, opium, heroine, shrooms and LSD. People of all ages used drugs at Woodstock, and would not get in trouble. They would have smoking sessions with groups of people. They would sing and dance and just enjoy life high. One teenager was selling LSD and it was pretty much rat poison, it was giving people bad trips, and this made them very sick. Luckily there were doctors there to treat these people.
